Advertising on Google
If you are a site or business owner, advertising on Google is, hands down, one of the best ways to bring visitors into your site or to attract customers for your company. The service Google AdWords allows you to reach around 80% of internet users, control advertising costs, target ads to reach people in a particular location or who are searching for particular keywords, and to change your ads whenever you see the need.
According to Google, Google AdWords works by allowing you to run your ads so that they show up in the Google search engine and on other sites throughout the advertising network. The best part of this for you is that you do not have to pay for having the ads run. Instead, you only pay when internet users click on your advertisement and are taken to your site. If you've ever typed anything into Google, it is likely that you have noticed the columns running down the side of the page. These are full of advertisements for different companies and sites, referred to as "Sponsored Links." These are the people, just like you, who have paid to have their ads come up when people type in certain related search terms.
You have the power to choose what key words will bring up your advertisement, and you can also choose the basic ad format, text, pictures that come up with the ad, and if applicable, videos that come up with the ad. Users pay a small activation fee and then begin paying for each time the advertisement is clicked on.
There are, of course, some downsides to this. Not every person that clicks on your ad will buy something or use your services. You also have to account for accidental clicks or people who are just browsing idly, not intending to buy anything or to continue visiting your site. Costs can also get out of hand if you are unprepared for the amount of visits your advertisement will bring in. The best way to combat these issues is to carefully select your keywords, making sure that they are the most likely to bring in potential buyers, new customers, or repeat visitors.
You will also want to be sure to carefully monitor how many clicks you are getting each day. Luckily, Google allows you to terminate the advertising process whenever you see fit or to change your ads as needed, so if you notice prices are getting too high or you are getting too many fruitless or dead end clicks, then you will want to either delete your ad or change your keywords as soon as possible.
There are many online guides and tutorials that can help you with the process of selecting keywords and designing ads. You will want to utilize these and other resources as much as possible, particularly if you are new to online advertising. You should also never enter into any kind of commitment with Google or any other advertising agency until you are sure that you understand the process and that you will be able to handle its management and upkeep on your own.
